For many years BTOSC has celebrated Christmas with a relaxed sailing weekend in the Solent with a festive dinner at a variety of venues.  It is a multi-boat event and although we can’t guarantee blue skies or the absence of snow and ice, we have in the past enjoyed fantastic weather for a dinner at the Folly in Cowes and excellent sailing too.

The event may include some light competition between crews in the form of a Quiz and /or a sailing challenge.

Last year we went to Hythe for our dinner for the first time and on the basis of feedback received we are going to follow the same pattern this year.   The other innovation last year was the opportunity for an additional day on the water for little extra cost.  We may look at the feasibility of offering this nearer the time.

So the outline plan is to:

  • Friday ~ from 1600 hrs – Assemble at our appointed yachts in Hamble Point Marina or Mercury Yacht Harbour
  • Saturday All day – Enjoy some sailing around the central Solent and the relative shelter of Southampton Water
  • Saturday 1600 hrs – Lock in and berth in Hythe Marina
  • Saturday 1900 hrs – Christmas meal at Seashells Restaurant in the pretty village of Hythe.  This has views over Southampton Water.
  • Sunday from 0900 hrs – Lock out of Hythe Marina.  A second opportunity for a sail in Southampton Water  / central Solent.

The indicative cost of a berth for this event is £200.   This includes the meal at the restaurant.  Members should assume that this excludes drinks.  The Berth fee also excludes the usual boat expenses – fuel, food etc;  the cost of these will be shared amongst all crew. If you would like to attend the meal only please also let Mick know.

To secure your berth please transfer the berth fee into the BTOSC Santander Account, Sort Code 09-01-55 Account Number 55024008.
