The BTOSC organises a number of formal and informal training events throughout the year to both encourage beginners and the more advanced sailor alike.
For further information on the syllabus for the RYA courses referred to below please refer to the Training section of the RYA Website.
Introduction to Sailing (for complete novices)
The Club organises an informal Introduction to Sailing weekend for complete novices at least once a year. However, this is not the only way to get started as many other events are equally suitable for beginners.
RYA – Day Skipper / Competent Crew
In the past the Club has been able to deliver RYA Day Skipper / Competent Crew courses using in-house instructors. However, we are currently not able to do this.
Preparation for RYA Yachtmaster Coastal or Yachtmaster Offshore Exam
Members wishing to take the RYA Yachtmaster Coastal or Yachtmaster Offshore practical should contact the Training Secretary. A prep course and exam may be booked at any time dependent on sufficient number of candidates.
Informal learning and Mates Programme
In addition to the above training courses, the club also organises “Boat Handling”, “Pilotage”, “Skipper Refresher” weekends and a “Mates Programme” to encourage development of future Club Skippers.
