The BTOSC Spring Rally is an annual event during which we also hold our AGM. Last year we offered members a three-day charter on one of the yachts. Following on from the success of that, this year the plan was for at least 2 yachts to be chartered for 3 days. In a change from arrangements in previous years we chose Hornet Services Sailing Club as a venue for the AGM meeting and dinner.
We chartered Sea Essay and Laita (a Bavaria 37 ) for 3 days and RudeKnot2 for the weekend. Laita had been a last minute replacement for Atlas which had been left in Cherbourg by its previous crew so was no longer available.
We had 18 attendees at the AGM. Two arrived on foot. The yachts we used were: Laita which was skippered by James Savage; Sea Essay skippered by Mick Curran and RudeKnot2 by Colin Jarvis.
All sailors on the 3 day event enjoyed some good sailing on the Friday. Sea Essay headed for Lymington and Laita headed for Northney Marina in Chichester Harbour. On the Saturday RudeKnot2 joined Sea Essay and Laita in Hornet marina. Despite being in the middle of an extensive dredging programme all facilities were available and crews enjoyed being somewhere different.
The AGM included the presentation of reports by the Chairman, Membership Sec and the Treasurer, endorsement of volunteers for committee posts and prize giving after which some worthwhile discussion was had. The AGM Dinner was then held in the Dining Room. Sirloin steak was the most popular main course and whilst there was no dancing on the tables rarely have I heard so much praise for the chefs. It was then back to Sea Essay for all that remained of their cheese board!
Many thanks to all for supporting this event. I suspect we will return.
